Orchestra Auditions
Auditions for all orchestras will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2008 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

All auditions will be held in the choir room at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church,

Audition Information
Preparatory Orchestra: This orchestra is open to musicians of all ages with 2 - 4
years of experience on their instruments. Please bring a written document listing the candidate's name,
contact information, musical experience and training. Please prepare one musical excerpt that displays the musical
strengths of the candidate. Emphasis will be placed on technical development and control, and rhythmic accuracy.
There will be a brief sight reading excerpt at the audition. Family participation is welcome and encouraged.
Progressive Orchestra: This orchestra is open to musicians of all ages with 5 - 7 (or more) years
of experience on their instruments. The performing level should be intermediate to advanced. Please bring a
written document listing the candidate's name, contact information, musical experience and training. Please prepare
two musical pieces or excerpts that adequately display the musical strengths of the candidate. The two excerpts
should be of contrasting character, one should be slow and expressive with emphasis on rhythmic accuracy, tone control,
intonation and articulation of coherent musical phrasing; the second excerpt should be a light or faster passage with emphasis
on technique, rhythmic accuracy, dynamic contrasts, melodic range of the instrument and articulation of coherent musical
phrasing. There will be a sight-reading portion on the audition. Family participation is welcome and encouraged. String candidates for the Progressive Orchestra must
have experience playing in the 5th - 7th positions.
More about the Progressive and Preparatory Orchestras
Symphony Orchestra: This adult orchestra is open to musicians at least 18 years of age
with an advanced level of experience on their instruments.
In addition to strings, there is a particular need for French horns (2).
Please bring a written document listing the candidate's name, contact
information, musical experience and training.
Please prepare
at least two excerpts from the standard orchestral, concerto, or solo literature. The two excerpts should be of
contrasting character, one should be slow and expressive with emphasis on rhythmic accuracy, dynamic and tone control,
intonation and articulation of coherent musical phrasing; the second excerpt should be a light or faster passage
with emphasis on technique, rhythmic accuracy, dynamic contrasts, melodic range of the instrument and articulation of
coherent musical phrasing. There will be a sight reading portion on the audition, however emphasis will be placed on the
prepared excerpts as illustration of the candidate's commitment to preparation for rehearsals.
